London Gazette Citation (January 16, 1919): For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He showed great coolness and resource in maintaining communication under heavy fire. When his lines were repeatedly broken, he went out and repaired them, often in the open, and under intense shell fire. His courage and determination were a fine example to all.
